Stay 1.0.1 released

The first update to Stay is now available. It fixes a bug that affected some users that caused the 30-day trial period to expire at first launch.

Users experiencing the problem will also need to remove the following files before running the update:

~/Library/Application Support/Stay ~/Library/Preferences/com.cordlessdog.Stay.plist

If you have any problems with the update, please let us know by email at support@cordlessdog.com.

Stay 1.0 released

Cordless Dog’s first Mac application, Stay, is now available to download.

Stay is an application for people who like to keep their windows organised and tidy. It’s particularly useful if you regularly use different displays with your computer.

There’s a video here that shows what Stay does and how it works, and you can download a 30 day trial of Stay here.

The release of Stay is good news for users of Knit Counter and ConvertKnit too, as work has now begun on long-overdue updates to both apps.

Cordless Dog Ravelry group

A Cordless Dog users’ group has been started on Ravelry. If you would like to discuss Knit Counter, Knit Counter Lite and ConvertKnit with other users, this is the place to do it. The users’ group can be found here (Ravelry account required).

Knit Counter 1.2 available

Knit Counter and Knit Counter Lite 1.2 are now available on the App Store. As previously mentioned, Knit Counter 1.2 requires version 3.1.2 of the iPod touch/iPhone OS.

Changes in 1.2 are as follows:

  • Counters can now have limits set on them. When a counter exceeds its limit, it resets to 1. New counters are created with a limit of 999.
  • There’s a new “notes” section on the Info screen, and a “size” field has also been added to the “pattern” section of the Info screen.
  • Setting an interval’s value, now also sets its starting value.
  • Various minor bug fixes.

I’ve updated the documentation to include the new features; direct links are available below:

As always, if you have any comments, requests or suggestions, please email me at support@cordlessdog.com.

Knit Counter 1.2 submitted to Apple

Knit Counter and Knit Counter Lite 1.2 were submitted to Apple today and are currently in review. Based on past experience, it’ll be a week or two before they’re available to download.

As was the case with version 1.1 and version 1.1.1, Knit Counter 1.2 requires the latest version of the iPhone/iPod OS, which is currently 3.1.2.

Changes in Knit Counter 1.2 include:

  • Counter limits: counters can be configured to reset to 1 after a user specified limit.
  • Added a “notes” section to the Info screen.
  • Added a “size” field to the “pattern” section of the info screen.
  • Various minor bug fixes.

I’ll post again (and update the documentation) as soon as 1.2 becomes available; in the mean time if you have any comments, requests or suggestions, please email me at support@cordlessdog.com.

Knit Counter 1.1.1 available for download

Knit Counter, and Knit Counter Lite 1.1.1 are now available on the App Store. As previously mentioned, version 1.1.1 is a bug fix release: specifically, it fixes a bug that appears when running Knit Counter on iPhone OS 3.1. The bug makes it very difficult to enter text into Knit Counter, so naming projects and counters, and entering details on the info screen become a real pain.

Again, apologies for letting this bug slip through. I hope it hasn’t caused too much frustration for those users who have upgraded to OS 3.1 If you’re still having problems after the update or if you have any thoughts or suggestions on Knit Counter, please let me know at support@cordlessdog.com.

Knit Counter 1.1.1 submitted to Apple

I received my first bug report for Knit Counter today. At first I was worried that I’d missed something in the testing for Knit Counter 1.1 but I very quickly realised that the bug was present in the original 1.0 version too. The reason it hadn’t been noticed until now is that it only manifests itself on iPhone OS 3.1.

The bug itself is minor, though very annoying. It basically makes it all but impossible to edit project names, counter names and info fields, as the keyboard disappears after each key press and can only be brought back by hitting Save and then opening the editor again. This means that while it is still possible to edit names and fields, you have to do it one character at a time which is obviously a very slow and irritating process.

I’ve submitted Knit Counter and Knit Counter Lite 1.1.1 to Apple; version 1.1.1 contains a fix for this bug and nothing more. Unfortunately if the last release was anything to go by, it’ll be a full two weeks before 1.1.1 is available for download. If you think this is bug going to be a major problem for you, my advice is to hold off on updating to iPhone OS 3.1 until Knit Counter 1.1.1 is available. Of course if you’ve already updated to OS 3.1 this advice is of no use to you at all, so all I can do is offer my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Knit Counter 1.1 Submitted to Apple

Knit Counter, and Knit Counter Lite 1.1 are now available on the App Store. It is, of course, a free upgrade.

As previously mentioned, Knit Counter 1.1 requires iPhone/iPod OS 3.0. If you haven’t upgraded to it, you’ll be able to continue to use Knit Counter and Knit Counter Lite 1.0, though I really do recommend upgrading to OS 3.0, it’s great.

I’ll repeat the list of changes and new features in Knit Counter 1.1 just for convenience. I’ve updated the documentation to cover the changes.

  • New and improved method for setting up increase/decrease markers and linked counters.
  • Added a “general” alert to compliment the existing increase and decrease alerts. Useful for cable rows, button holes or anything else that isn’t an increase or a decrease.
  • It’s now possible to add multiples of the same field to the Info screen. Useful for projects that need more than one type of yarn or set of needles.
  • Added a setting for disabling the iPhone/iPod touch’s sleep timer. When enabled the screen will remain on permanently while Knit Counter is running.
  • Added a setting for frog-button lock mode. When enabled, a single tap of the frog button enables frogging, a second tap disables it again. Makes it easier to use Knit Counter one-handed.
  • Added a setting for enabling sounds when incrementing/frogging counters.
  • Added a setting for enabling sounds when alert rows are reached. Provides an additional, audible cue that something important needs to be done on the current row.
  • A handful of minor bug fixes.

Apologies if your pet feature request didn’t make it into 1.1; please keep the feedback and suggestions rolling in. I do keep track of all feature requests and chances are, if I can add something without upsetting Knit Counter’s interface, I will. As always, my email address is support@cordlessdog.com.

Knit Counter 1.1 Submitted to Apple

It’s been a long time since the first release of Knit Counter, but Knit Counter 1.1 and Knit Counter Lite 1.1 have finally been submitted to Apple and are currently in review. All going well they should be available for download in about a week or two.

It’s worth pointing out that Knit Counter 1.1 requires iPhone/iPod OS 3.0. This is a free upgrade for iPhone users, but Apple charges iPod touch users about US$10 for the upgrade. Unfortunately as I do all of my development and testing on my own personal iPhone (which I’ve upgraded to 3.0), I no longer have any way to develop Knit Counter for iPhones/iPods running the older version of the OS. Knit Counter and Knit Counter Lite 1.0 will of course continue to work on the older version of the OS.

I’ve received a whole lot of feature requests since the release of Knit Counter, far too many for me to include all of them in this version in fact. If your feature request hasn’t made it into this version, it hasn’t been forgotten; I’ve already started planning for the next release of Knit Counter so your desired feature may find its way into 1.2, 1.3 or beyond.

Changes in Knit Counter 1.1 include:

Once the new version is available for download, I’ll post updated documentation covering the new features in detail. As always, please let me know if you have any problems, queries, or feature requests. My email address is support@cordlessdog.com.
