Stay’s primary interface is the main menu, shown above. The menu is broken up into five sections, each of which contains menu items related to a separate task.
As its title suggests, “Restore Windows” restores the open windows to their stored sizes and positions. For a more detailed explanation of how restoring windows works, refer to Restoring Windows.
The second section contains three menu items, all of which perform actions on either the active application, or the active window.
The name and icon of the active application is displayed at the top of this section, with the three menu items below it all performing functions on the windows of this application.
“Store All Windows for …” stores all of the windows for the active application. Similarly, the “Store Active Window” menu item stores only the active window. For more detailed information about the window storing process, refer to Storing Windows.
“Link Active Window To…” allows you to link the active window to a stored window. For more detailed information about window linking and an explanation of when window linking is useful, refer to Linking Windows.
The third section contains a single menu item: “Store Windows for All Applications”. This menu item stores all of the windows for all running applications. For a more detailed explanation of how storing windows works, refer to Storing Windows.
The fourth section contains a single menu item: “Edit Stored Windows…”. This menu item displays a window that allows you to edit stored windows. For more detailed information about editing stored windows, refer to Editing Stored Windows.
The fifth section contains menu items that perform miscellaneous functions.
The “Preferences…” menu item displays the preferences window. For a detailed description of available preferences, refer to General Preferences and Hot Key Preferences.
The “About Stay” menu item displays a window with information about Stay.
The “Quit Stay” menu item quits Stay.
