Stay 1.2 released

Version 1.2 of Stay is now available.

Feature Additions:

  • Added the ability to run scripts when restoring windows.
  • Added the ability to specify a regular expression to use when matching window titles.

Bug Fixes:

General Changes:

  • Altered Stay’s icon to comply with Mac App Store rules.

This version includes two oft-requested features: the ability to run scripts when restoring windows, and greater control over how Stay matches window via regular expression matching of window titles.

Documentation and examples for both new features are available here:

And I’m pleased to report that after several rejected submissions, Stay 1.2 is also available on the Mac App Store.

While I’m on the subject of the App Store version of Stay, there is an upcoming App Store policy change that will affect Stay. From June onwards, all applications submitted to the Mac App Store must be “sandboxed”.

Unfortunately Apple has explicitly stated that the parts of OS X that Stay relies on for its functionality are not supported in sandboxed apps, so there is no way at present for Stay to be sandboxed. Fortunately though, developers will be permitted to submit bug fix releases for existing App Store apps even after the sandboxing deadline. Whether it will be possible to include new features in these bug fix releases remains to be seen.

Regardless of its future in the App Store, updates to Stay will continue to be available directly from the Cordless Dog website. The non-App Store version of Stay honours App Store purchases and will run fully registered.
